Call me Jeroen
I am a proud father of a sensitive daughter and an enterprising son. And a native 'Brabander', born in the south of the Netherlands. My father introduced me to many other cultures at an early age due to his international work. Through his travel stories, his international taste in music and the cultural parties he organised with my mother. As a result, I met international business associates, each with their own perspectives on life. My great ‘wanderlust’ must have born from this. There is so much to discover and always something to learn.
Since childhood, I have been fascinated by the playfulness of people and what motivates them to act in unknown or even uncomfortable situations. We have much more creativity and resourcefulness is us, than we normally use. For me cultural differences exist because we develop our self awareness in so many different and beautiful cultural environments. Discover your fellow human beings, because you learn the most from your differences!
When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.
You are what you do
Having worked with refugees for decades, I know that people can very naturally do something different from what they say they would. Every field of work has its remarkable practices of ‘we say that, but we don't’ do that! Because I focus on our actions, it allows me to get quickly to the core of how people collaborate and communicate. My advice, training and support should match your practice. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all. Because you can have so many titles, certificates, but if you can't apply this to the people you work with, it's as if they don't exist. In my coaching, I stand next to someone and support them until they can do it themselves. Purely from the belief that you are the main key to the practice you operate and live in. An outsider can give inspiring insights, but you have to do it yourself. We create change from acting and collaborating differently, not from thick paper implementation plans.
Arab participants described me as: decent, well-mannered, humble, open-minded, learned, sweet and humorous.
My score as a trainer is 4.92 on a 5-point lickertscale (>100 multicultural participants).
